The Expendables 2 | Opening Action Scene

From the opening scene of this film we can see that this film is an action film. It shows alot of fighting scenes which is a convention of an action film. Also there is alot of explosions and crashes, this would mean that it will be exciting to watch and it will be very entertaining. The location of the film is set far way this  makes us feel that this location is alot different to where we live. We can see that this film is set in a location far away as the opening shot shows an exotic location.

There is alot of very dangerous things happening, this would keep the audience hooked. There is a car chase which is a convention of an action film, this would link with the opening scene being very high tempo, this would be entertaining for the audience. Their is alot of close ups of the main characters this gives us the chance to look at their facial expressions. Also their is alot of medium shots which gives us the chance to look at the scenery. The exotic location gives us a sense of escapism.

When the car chase is happening we can see that the pace of the editing is very fast, this makes it very entertaining for the audience. The music in the opening scene suggests that the main characters that are shooting the other people are heroic. There is alot of stunts happening, this is a convention of an action film.

There is a lot of close up shots of the actor Sylvester Stallone this suggests that he is one of the main characters. With this character having a lot of screen time it would mean that the audience will warm to him. The target audience of this film will be very heavily male. This is because this film contains things like: guns, deaths, blood and explosions. All of these things will appeal mostly to men.

The Dark Knight Bank Robbery Scene HD

We find out this is an action film, this is because it starts of with the bad guys smashing a window then they zip line across two buildings 100's of feet above the ground, this shows that there is danger which would keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Also there is a bank robbery which is a convention of an action film, in most action films there is the 'bad guys' committing a crime. The opening scene shows that there is people being put at gun point which is also a convention of an action film, this would link with the zip line across the buildings as they both keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

The opening scene is very high tempo. Another thing that would suggest the dark knight is an action film is that it is set in a big city; also the setting is very modern. The opening scene suggests that there is a motive for the 'bad guys'. Their motive is to get as much money as possible; this is a convention of an action film. The opening shot is of the city which would suggest that there is where the movie will be set. There is a lot of close ups of the so called 'villains' which would suggest there will be some sort of clash between the villains and the heroes. There are also a lot of gun shots and people being shot dead, this would suggest that this is an action film. The target audience of this film would be males; this is due to the hi-tech gadgets, gunshots and all of the action of this film mostly being aimed towards males.

The non diagetic sound is very mysterious and fast paced, this creates tension. It makes the audience feel as if something bad is going to happen. The villains speak about 'The Joker' throughout this clip, this would suggest that he is one of the main characters in this film. Even though he is not in this clip you can almost tell that he is a dangerous character.

Scream (1996) - First 5 Minutes (Opening scene)

We find out that the genre of this film is a horror. One of the conventions of a horror film is that there is tension and it is trying to make the audience jump. The non diagetic sound builds tension as it is makes us feel that something bad is going to happen. The music in this film gives us the impression that it is building up to something that will make us jump. This film also shows a young woman at the beginning being stalked and harassed. This is another convention of a horror film, usually in horrors there is a young woman being targeted first. Horror films are supposed to bring up our worst nightmares. One of peoples main fears is being stalked and watched while your alone, and this film exploits that.

The young girl has a lot of camera time and there are alot of close ups of her. This will make the audience sympathise and warm to her. With alot of camera time being on the girl the audience are able to put themselve in that situation. The villain conforms to the stereotype of villains being mysterious. He is masked, which makes the audience want to know his true identity.

The opening scene is located in the middle of nowhere, this is a convention of a horror film. If it was located in the middle of nowhere this would mean if the woman was attacked she would have nowhere to run. I believe that the target audience of this film would be people of both ages aged about 15-25. I feel that many young people would be attracted to this as some of the main characters are young people, if the characters are the same sort of age range the audience will be able to relate to them which will make them more interested.
