Storyboard 6

These are shots 13,14 and 15. These 3 shots are very important in our film. Shot 13 introduces the villains to the film, shot 14 shows the main character power sliding. This is a stunt and it is a convention of an action film. Finally Shot 15 shows the main character driving away from the villains.

Storyboard 5

This is shot 11 and 12 of the storyboard. These two shots show conversation between agent Sinclair and what he thinks his accomplice. It turns out the this man is working behind his back with the villains to try and get the intel which agent Sinclair has. The man leads agent Sinclair to a location where the villains are based.

Institution research

When looking for what production companies we could use we thought that it should be the same as well known action films.

Universal logo 2013.jpg
Universal Studios Inc. (also known as Universal Pictures), is an American motion picture studio,  and is one of the six major movie studios. Its production studios are at 100 Universal City Plaza Drive in Universal city,California. Distribution and other corporate offices are in New York City.
Universal studios has produced some well known action films like Death Race and the most well known is Fast and Furious.

Warner Bros is a well known production company which is located in America. This production company has produced the lights of Batman and Harry Potter, both very successful well known films.

Paramount is a very successful production company, it has produced many well known films. Some examples are G.I.Joe and Transformers.

Gladiator - opening scene

From the start we can see that this is an action based film. The establishing shot is of a battle field. This would make the audience think that there will be violence.  We get to know that the main character is Russell Crowe. This is because he has alot of close ups and alot of screen time. Also in the opening of the film all the characters show respect to him. This would make the audience warm to him.

The audience would feel hatred towards the villains. The villains are shown to chop the head off one of the soldiers. This makes the audience feel as if they are disrespectful and that they are the enemy. The army that is lead by Russell Crowe are wearing helmets and have better ammunition compared to the villains. The villains are wearing old and ragged dirty clothing and have a shield and sword. This shows that they are more prepared and are ready for battle. Even though the army that is lead by Russell Crowe is going into battle and will be killing people, the audience feel as if they are doing it for a good reason. This is because the shots at the beginning showing the people being respectful makes the audience warm to them. The non diagetic sound seems to be building up to something. This will build tension and it will keep the audience intrigued.

I believe that the target audience for this film would be men aged 18-40. From the opening two minutes we see that there is a battle occurring. This will suggest that there is going to be violence and deaths which will stereo typically appeal to men. Also the characters in this film are aged 30+, this would attract men who are that sort of age to watch the film as they will be able to relate to it and put themselves in the characters situation.

non copyright music. action sound.mp4

This piece of music is fast paced. We were thinking of putting this in the flashback scene, this is because this is when the action is happening. Having action based non diagetic music in the action scenes will make it seem more fast paced and entertaining.

Title research

In the group we agreed to name our film 'Alliance'. We wanted to have the title very bold and we wanted it to look serious. As a group we thought that the font in the top left was the font that we are going to use. Earlier in the year we thought of using the title 'intel', but we then agreed that Alliance linked more with action so we chose it as our title.

Storyboard 4

This is shots 8,9 and 10 of our storyboard. These 3 shots show agent Sinclair driving his moped to get to a certain location. We tried to use a range of different shots in these scenes. These shots will be made to look more fast paced by fast paced editing. This is a common theme in many action films.

Storyboard 3

This is shot 6 and 7. These shots show a close up the main character in the interrogation scene and it also shows him on the phone. In the interrogation scene there are a lot of shots of agent Sinclair this means the audience will be able to warm to him as he has a lot of screen time.

Storyboard 2

This is shots 3, 4 and 5 of our storyboard. These 3 shots show a lot of violence. It shows the villains with a gun and a knife. This makes them seem more intimidating. Also there is a shot where agent Sinclair is being hit by the villain. Violence is a common theme in action films.

Storyboard 1

These are the first two shots of our film. The establishing shot is of Agent Sinclair. Straight away the audience are able to warm to him. The audience will know he is in danger as he is tied up and the low angle shot shows he is not in control. Shot 2 we see a gun pointed to his head, this will keep the audience on the edge of their seats.

Focus Pull Tutorial

The focus pull is useful for directing the viewer's attention. For example, if there are two people in shot but only one is in focus, that person is the subject of attention. If the focus changes to the other person, they become the subject. This is often used in drama dialogues — the focus shifts backwards and forwards between the people speaking. A slightly more subtle trick is to focus on a person speaking then pull focus to another person's silent reaction.
