Today me, Kieran and Alex finished off our filming for our opening two minutes. Also we had two extra people who plated a part in the film. One played a villain and the other played a good guy who get held hostage.
We believe that we have all the footage we need, but if there are extra shots needed we will go out on a later date to get the shots we need.
Today we filmed the action based scenes. They contained some violence and it also contained fast paced editing. For the filming we went to Epsom downs as we believed it was the best location.

Todays filming
Location
This picture shows the location for one of our scenes for our film. It is a picture of a car park. We thought a car park would be a good location as it is hidden away and it is also stereotypically used for meeting points in action films.
One of the 'good guys' will ring up agent sinclair and ask him to meet him at the car park.
This will be the place where one of the characters will be held hostage, also it will be the place where Alex will be knocked unconscious.
We thought that a location that is quite hidden is good for the violent scenes.
This car park was also quite spacious which will benefit us hugely as we will do things like power sliding with the motor bike.
Film prop- motorbike
This is a motorbike which will be used as a prop in our opening two minutes. The motorbike will be used in the chase scene, it is a huge part of our film.
We will need it because it will be used in the scene where fast paced editing is shown. Fast paced editing is important as we want to show as many conventions of action films as possible.
Agent Sinclair (Alex) will have the motorbike in our film. This conforms to the stereotype of secret agents having motorbikes. Motorbikes are seen to be dangerous.
With this prop Alex will do a powerslide, this is a stunt. Having a stunt in our film will keep the audience on the edge of their seats as they will see that there is danger and they will be intrigued to see what will happen.
Location for film
This is a picture of a road at Epsom downs. This road will be used for our chase scene. We thought that this is a good location as it is not very busy and it also leads to a car park. We will use the car park for the hostage scene.
The road being quiet will mean that it will be less dangerous and it will also make it easier to film. For this scene there needs to be a large number of shots of Alex driving his moped on the road.
To make the scene seem fast paced and exciting we will use fast paced editing. This will require we make a number of different shots from different angles along the road.

Total Recall Opening Analysis
From the opening scene of Total Recall we can see that it is an action film. Their is a lot of shooting in the opening scene, this is a common theme in action films. When the shooting scene is happening the non diagetic sound is very fast paced. This links with the fast paced editing. Fast paced sound and editing will make it more exciting for the viewers and it will keep them entertained. In our opening two minutes we are going to use both fast paced music and editing and we will be looking for the same effect.
In the opening of this film there is some romance, it shows two of the characters kissing eachother. Romance would attract the female audience. The target audience of action films is predominantly men, so having romance in the film would make it appeal towards woman. Men would be the target audience for this film as there is alot of violence and it is a fast paced film.
We can see that the main character in this film is the man (Colin Farrell). The establishing shot is an extreme close up of his face. Also there is alot of close ups of this character. He has alot of camera time which will mean that the audience will get to know his character and they will warm to him.
Another common theme shown in this clip is that the character wakes up after it was only just a dream. The main character is always the one who has the action filmed nightmares. If the character is having a lot of nightmares then there is usually something on their mind that they are worrying about.

Harry Potter and The Order Of The Phoenix (2007) Official Opening Scene ...
From the opening scene to Harry potter and the order of the phoenix we can see that the genre of this film is a fantasy. We can see that the main character is Harry potter. This is because Harry is in the opening shot and he also has alot of camera time. This allows the audience to get to know him which will mean they will warm to him. In the opening scene we see that the main character has a wand. This would connote wizardry and magic which both conform to the stereotype of fantasy films. Another thing that conforms to the stereotype of fantasy films is the very unrealistic scene when the sky went from blue to black within seconds. In fantasy films many unrealistic things occur.
When the boys were attacked by the 'dementors' there are quite a few low angle shots of the 'dementors'. This makes them seem in control and it will also make the audience think that the boys are vulnerable and in trouble. The 'bad guys' in the film are very monstrous which would conform to the stereotype of fantasy films. The common theme of good vs bad is shown in this clip. This theme is very often shown in fantasy films. The first thing the audience see's is dark grey clouds, which would connote danger. This would set the scene as the audience will think something bad will happen.
This also shows that it is made by 'Warner Bros'. This is a very well know company that has been involved in many successful films. People will have high expectations of this movie as Warner Bros are involved. The non diagetic sound in this clip is very mysterious and gloomy. It makes the audience feel as something bad is going to happen as it seems as the music is building up to something which creates tension and it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. The target audience for this film would be mostly younger people. This is because the main character and most of the other charcacters are young. This means that the audience will be able to relate to the film meaning they will be more interested and intrigued.
Shot types in our film
Extreme close up- This shot will be used as the establishing shot. The etreme close up enables the viewers to see the characters facial expressions. In our film the extreme close up enables the audience to see the characters injuries.
High angle shot- The high angle shot will be used in the interrogation scene. A high angle shot makes the character seem very vulnerable and it will show that they are not in control of the situation.
Low angle shot- This will be used in the interrogation scene. This will make the villains more of a dominant figure. This will make the audience feel as if they are in control.
Long shot- There will be many long shots in our opening two minutes. Long shots mean that the audience are able to see everything thats happening. In our their are alot of things happening so long shots are appropriate.
Extreme long shot- The extreme long shot will be used when Alex is driving his moped down a long road. In extreme long shots there is not much detail and they are mostly used to show a general impression.
Over the shoulder shot- We will use this shot when the main character is being shot at. The shot will be over the shoulder of the person holding the gun.
Medium shot- This shot will be used when it is showing the villain holding the gun.
Our film age certificate
Our film age certificate will be 15. The reasons for this are that our film will contain strong language and violence. Strong language will be used when the main character is being shot at and also it will be used in the interrogation scene. Their will be quite extreme violence in this film. There will be murders, gunshots, knifes and fist fights. Having the film rated 15 we are still able to appeal to our target audience. If the film was rated 18 we would not be able to appeal to a large part of our target audience. The target audience for this film is mostly 15-24.
Our film broken down into stages
The genre of our film is Action and here is a breakdown of our opening two minutes.
0-30 seconds: At the beginning of the film the location will be the garage for the interrogation scene. The establishing shot would be a close up of Alex-the main character. This close up will show his facial expressions and his injuries. Alex will be being questioned by the villains. There will be a flashback which will lead to the next scene.
30-50 seconds: This would be the scene with fast paced editing. Their will be multiple shots of Alex on his moped. The fast paced editing will make the scene more entertaining for the audience. This will be shot in Epsom downs.
50 seconds-1 minute 30 seconds: This will be the real action scene. This scene has many conventions of an action film. It contains stunts, fast paced music, violence, murders and conflict. Alex will arrive at a car park to find his friend murdered by the villains, then they will chase and shoot at him. Alex will take cover and hide the Intel that is wanted by the villains. Then he will get knocked unconscious by one of the villains.
1 minute 30 seconds- 1 minute 40 seconds: This scene will be set in the garage and it will go back to Alex being interrogated by the villains. He will be questioned on where the Intel is and then he will refuse to say where it is.
1 minute 40 seconds- 2 minutes. This final scene will be the escape scene. Alex will find a sharp material on the floor and he will begin to cut the rope on his hands. When it is cut he will dramitacally escape while fighting of the villains.
schedule
We have an inset day on Friday 29th of November. We will finish of the filming on this day. We will start to film at an earlier time on the Friday which would give us the time we need to get all of our scenes done.

Camera
There is the option of using the camera from school or using Alex morgans iphone. We belive that the iphones camera quality is very good. Alex me and Kieran did a test video so we could see if we were able to upload the video to the computer, it turns out we were able to upload it. At the moment we all think its best to use the iphone to video our opening two minutes this is because it has a very good quality camera and the videos can easily be uploaded to the computer. We are planning to start filming this sunday. If all of the filming is not finished we willmost likely finish it off the week after. The location of our filming is Epsom downs.
costumes for characters
The main characters clothing will be very smart and professional. He is likely to be wearing a suit. This would go along with the secret agent theme, James bond is the most famous secret agent and he is seen wearing suits on a regular basis.

Jaws opening scene
From the opening scene we can see that this film is a thriller. In the opening shot we can see that the character shown is a young attractive girl. This is a common theme in thriller and horror films. The girl offers sex appeal and she also seems very vulnerable. The scene is located on the beach and the shot shows that she is all alone. In many thrillers the first murder is a young girl, in many of these films they are located in a place far away from help and they are always alone to make them seem vulnerable. There is a low angle shot showing the girl in the sea from under the water, this makes the audience think that she is being watched. The shot is quite long which gives the audience time to think that something is underneath her.
The non-diagetic sound is very slow paced and it seems as if it is building up to something happening. This will keep the audience in suspense and it will keep them intrigued. The editing pace is very slow until the attack. When she is attacked there are more shots and the music speeds up, this makes it more exciting and entertaining. The scene is also happening at night. This makes them seem more vulnerable and more prone to bad things happening. In many thriller films a lot of things happen when its dark.
The target audience of this film would mostly be a younger audience. This is because most of the victims are teenagers, so this would mean that the audience would be able to put themselves in that situation which would make them more interested in whats happening. Men would also want to watch this film because it is very gory and also this shows a female with sex appeal which would attract the male audience. The director of this film is Steven Spielberg and he has alot of respect from many people as he has made very successful films. So people who like Steven Spielberg would want to watch this film.

Age certificates
This would be suitable for people aged 4 and over
All ages are admitted, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children
It is suitable for people aged 12 and over, but in some cases the parents may feel that some things in a 12 film are unsuitable.
This is suitable for ages 15 and over. 15 rated films contain adult themes, strong language and drug and sex references.Adywans - Star wars: Revisited - The Opening Scene.
From the opening two minutes of Star wars I can see that the genre is both Sci-fi and action.
We can see that this is a Science fiction film as the setting is in space. The establishing shot is an extreme long shot of space. Another way we can tell that this film is a sci-fi is that some of the characters are robots. Also there is a huge spaceship that is full of robots. We see a low angle shot of the spaceship which makes it seem dominant. The guns in this scene seem very futuristic, this is a stereotype of a science fiction film.
Also this film can be seen as an action. There are fight scenes in the opening scene. The non-diagetic sound is very fast paced which would connote that it is an action. There is also some near misses which is a convention of an action. Also there are some explosions.
At the end of the scene we see the character 'darth vader'. We can see that he will be one of the main characters as there is alot of camera time for him. Also the type of clothing he is wearing would suggest that he is the villain. Darth vader's clothing is black which is a stereotype of the villain.
Another thing that would suggest that Darth Vader is a villain would be the fact that when he came into the shot the music stopped. There was fast paced music throughout, then when Darth Vader came in the music went slow paced. This made me think that he is a dominant figure. Also when he came into the scene there was a sence of anxiety.
The target audience of this film would be very broad. People aged 18-40 would be the main target audience. This is because they are stereotypically the age group that enjoy science fiction based films.

Preliminary task
To get the preliminary task as good as possible we had to do a huge number shots. This allowed us to have a higher chance of getting what we wanted as we would have a number of shots to choose from.
We edited our shots on adobe. On adobe we used the 'fade to black' transition. This has the same sort of effect as match on action. The transition made the clip seem more natural which allowed the audience to understand the scene. The effect of the transition was that it gave the clip continuity.
If we did this again we would need to spend more time on editing the clip. Also we could work on the length of each shot as this would make it seem more natural. So overall there is alot of things we need to improve, but there is also things we done quite well.
Mood board
2. In the film we are going to use guns. Guns are often used in action scenes. We will use the gun in the fight scene, the main character will be being shot at by the 'villains' who want something that he has.
3. The swinging light in our film will be used in the interigation scene. The swinging light will show that it is located in a dark gloomy room that is very rarely used. Our scene will be located in a garage. The swinging light is often used in interigation scenes.
4. This shows a man in a suit. In our opening two minutes our main character will be wearing a suit. This will show the audience that the main character is very professional and very smart. If he is wearing a suit he would be taken more seriously compared to if he was wearing scruffy clothes.
It is vital that he is seen to be professional as he is doing a very high profile job against very dangerous people.
5. This shows the intel. The intel in our film is almost the most important thing. The main character will have the intel and the villains will want it back. In our film their is alot of conflict over this intel. This would show that it has alot of importance and it is very valuable.
6. In our opening two minutes there will be a chase scene. The good guy will be being chased by the 'villains'. This is a convention of an action film. In the chase scene fast paced editing will be used, this will make it more exciting for the audience. Also we will try and make the non-diagetic sound fast paced.
7. This shows where the interigaton scene will be set. The man who is tied up looks very vulnerable. In our film we are looking for this effect. The man will be held hostage until he says where the intel is. To make the character seem vulnerable their will be people surrounding him. Also we will try to use high angle shots to make him look small and helpless.
8. This shows a fight scene. Fight scenes are a convention of action films. This scene in our film would be at the end of the two minutes when the character is escaping from the villains after he was been held hostage. Violence is a stereo type of an action film.
9. This shows James bond. Our film is very similar to James bond films. In the film their is villains, a good guy, a mission and a secret agent. Our main character is similar to James bond as they both wear suits to look professional and they both involved in alot of the action based scenes.
10. This shows a side road at Epsom downs. This is the location of the chase scene. The powerslide will be happening at the end of that road. This also shows that the road is not very busy which is good as we will be able to film more easily.
11. This shows the map of where the film will be located. It shows that it will be located in a fairly quiet area as it shows that there is alot of fields around. This also shows that it is not located near any main roads, which makes it easier for us to film.

how often do you visit the cinema per month
This pie chart shows that 90% of the people that we asked go to the cinema 3 or more times a month. It also shows 50% of the people we asked go 5 or more times a month! This would show that alot of people go to the cinema showing that a lot of people enjoy watching films. This would suggest that our film has a good chance of being successful.
occupation
This graph shows that 55% of people we asked were currently employed, 15% were unemployed and 30% were students. This would show that alot of the people we asked our fairly young, so we should focus are film on younger peoples wants rather than middle aged peoples thoughts on films. The graph shows that 3 people we asked were unemployed, our other graph shows that 2 people go to the cinema 0-2 times a month. This shows us that even people with little money still have the urge to go to watch films as often as possible.
interests
This pie chart shows 20% of the people asked enjoyed sport. This would suggest they are lively people. You would associate these type of people enjoying action based films. 70% of the peoples interests was their friends and families. If people enjoy going out with their friends and families they usually like to go out to places with them. One place could be the cinema as many families and friends stereo typically go to the cinema.
gender
65% of the people we asked were boys and 35% were girls. For our film most of our target audience would be male. This is because our film genre is action and stereotypically males usually enjoy action films. So therefore it is beneficial if we ask more boys than girls as we now be able to get to know about our target audience alot more.
films per month
85% of people we asked watch 3 or more films a month, this would suggest that films are very popular among many people. If people enjoy watching alot of films it can only be beneficial for us. If people are watching alot of films it would mean that not just big well known films can be successful, it shows that a huge number of films can be enjoyed by alot of people.
favourite genre
favourite action film
what do you spend your disposable income on
In this pie chart it shows that 40% of people spend their disposable income on going to the cinema. This pie chart like alot of the charts show that the people we asked enjoy watching films.
Age groups
Do action films appeal to you
This shows that 80% of people say that action films appeal to them. This is very good for us as we now know that the action genre is very popular to a huge percentage of people.
Tuesday, 12 November 2013
This questionnaire will help us as it will mean that we now know more about our target audience. We know the the age, gender and if they are employed or in education. The most important thing is that we know that action films appeal to alot of people.
Friday, 8 November 2013
This shows the james bond quantum of solace target audience. The genre of this film is action which is the same genre as the film that me Alex and Kieran are doing. This graph will help us as we will know what are target audience will be. This graph shows that the target audience is prodominantly male. The reason for this would be that action films contain violence and explosions. Stereotypically men enjoy violence and explosions. Also I can see that this graph shows that the main age groups are 15-24 and 45+. Both of these age groups together make up 52% of the viewings, both having 26%. This would help us as we will now know that we should try and focus on what these two age groups want as it shows that these two age groups watch action films. Also we can see that people who are of a higher class watch this film. People in the class of AB and C1 together make up 72% of the viewers of this film, both having 36%.

horror
The conventions of horror films are: murders, female with sex appeal, 'jumpy scenes' and creepy music. In a horror film the intention of the film is to scare the audience. To scare the audience the main theme of horror films are peoples worst nightmare. So for example a serial killer, a clown or a ghost. Also tension is created by creepy music. The music is usually very slow paced. The camera shots in horror movies are mostly long shots and close ups. Close ups are used to show the facial expressions of the characters, most of the time the close ups are on the character that is being attacked. This is because it enables the audience can see and even feel their fear. Long shots are used to show the whole setting, sometimes long shots shows things creeping up behind someone, this creates tension. When the audience can see something or someone creeping up behind a person in a long shot it creates dramatic irony.
In almost all horror films there is a teenage girl being killed. The girl is seen to be the'damsil in distress. Also she is seen to be fragile and helpess. The girl always seems to be alone in a place far away from anything. This makes the girl vulnerable.
The target audience for horror films are young people aged 16-30 Many teenagers will want to watch a horror film as they will feel as if they can relate to the film. Teenagers are used most of the time in horror films. Also young people will want watch horrors as they will want to see blood and gore, which is shown alot in horror films. The colours used in horror films are usually black and red. This is because stereotypically these colours connote evil and death. Teens would would be the target audience because they usually want to have adrenaline rushes and they also want to have the shock factor. Older people will not be the target audience as they will feel that horror films are boring and unrealistic as they would of seen many before.

Initial film ideas
We want our movie to be an action movie. We will like to start our movie opening scene right in the middle of an action scene to get our viewers intrigued. This will also show the audience that the genre is action. Alex has a motorbike so we will use that as a chase scene and perhaps a power slide into a shooting scene. This will act as a prologue and at the end of the scene it will go back in time at the beginning of the movie. For this we will use a mixture of fast pace editing to make the chase scene fast and vicious.
What we could do to make our opening scene more complicated but more engaging is to put the main character in an unknown location seemingly captured by the villains. Whilst being interrogated the main character walks through the action scene as it is being shown. The action scene will be presented as a flash back to the audience. For the interrogation the camera shots will be mainly close up to show the main characters facial expressions and injuries. We will need to use the 180 rule to make the scene look better.
Movie location
For our movie location we will need an open calm road for the motorbike chase scene to be filmed. We will also need an empty car park near the road so we can film the power slide scene. My first initial idea was to do it at Epsom downs as it has a calm road leading up to a gravel car park which will make it easier to power slide. The open area of the downs will also provide a decent shoot out scene.
For the integration scene we will need to use a garage or some sort of empty dull room with a hanging light. Alex’s garage could be used as it had a hanging light and it is the right size but it will need a decent clew out for the scene to look realistic

Romance
Romance
The conventions of the romance genre include: A relationship, a very pushy parent, a strange best friend, a love triangle, normal middle class people and a break up/argument.
The main characters are usually the two people that are in the relationship. The main characters are usually ordinary people that live ordinary lives, this is because the audience will be able to relate to it as they will be able to imagine themselves in the situation.
There is very often a love triangle. This creates tension and usually entertainment, there will be arguments and sometimes even physical fights. Stereo typically the so called 'third person' in the love triangle is very handsome man from a past relationship that has come back to try and win the girl back.
Things you would expext to see in a romance include flowers and gifts, the gifts usually for things like weddings which is widely assosciated with the romance genre.
The target audience of romance is mainly woman. This is because stereotypically woman are more emotional and enjoy watching romantic films. Woman usually watch these types of films as romance films offers a sence of escapism, woman will want to escape from their every day lives and imagine themselves being in love with the man of their dreams. Men would not really be attracted to romance films as they are more into fast paced action films, the romance genre is much more relaxed and slow paced so it would mostly be aimed towards woman
