21 Jump Street: Intro Scene | FUNNY

From the opening two minutes we can see that this film is a comedy. There are many conventions of a comedy shown in the opening scene. One convention is that there is the so called 'nerd' asking the girl of his dreams to prom. Another convention shown is that the 'nerd' is shown to be socially awkward, this will be funny to watch for the audience. There is alot of close ups of two characters this will suggest that they are the main characters. One of the main characters is seen to be very accident prone and quite idiotic, this is because it shows him kicking a bin and consequently hurting himself. The location is in a high school.

The target audience would be teenagers so they will be able to relate with the film which will make them more intrigued by the film. Another thing that would suggest this film is a comedy is that when one person cannot go to prom and the other gets turned down when asking a girl on a date the non diagetic sound is very saddening, this makes it seem that something really bad has just happened when really it is not the end of the world. The opening scene of this film shows bullying which is a common theme in many comedy films.

In many comedy films things are blown out of proportion. For example in 21 Jump Street when one of the characters gets turned down by his crush the non diagetic sound is very sad and he is shown crying. This type of humor will be targeted towards teenagers as things like relationships are a big thing in their lives.

There are a lot of stereo types shown in this opening scene which is a common theme in comedy films. One stereo type is that the 'jock' is not very academically smart. In this clip it shows two completely different people that come together to be friends. Both of the two main characters are seen to be quite humorous and likable.
